Where is the Rwenzori Mountain?

The Rwenzori Mountains lies within the Rwenzori National Park, which was founded in 1991 and the park occupies up to about 1000sq.kms. Margherita is the Rwenzori Mountains highest peak and this block mountain consists of 6 mountain ranges (including Mt. Baker, Stanley, Emin, Luigi Di Savoia, Speke and Gessi). The ranges are bisected by the scenic green valleys, rives and etc.

Getting to Rwenzori Mountains National Park is easier provided by travelers who have booked rwenzori treks and everything is fully prepared by the local tour operator. For independent travelers, you will either need public transport means or a rental car for self-drive through the mountains. There are many routes that lead up to Rwenzori National Park but you take the one you prefer most and offers the simplest access. By road transportation

Sitting in the western side of Uganda, visitors can reach the Park from Kampala capital taking different routes, including the Kampala via Mityana, Mubende to Fort Portal route 375kms and or Kampala through Masaka, Mbarara city, Bushenyi to Kasese about 6 hours’ drive. Kampala via Mbarara city to Queen Elizabeth National Park 450kms or 17kms to Nyakalengija starting starting from Kasese-Fort Portal route or 25kms setting off from the Northern side of Kasese Town to Nyakalengija circuit.

Interestingly, traveling via Queen Elizabeth National Park is a great opportunity for you to also have incredible sight of the park’s diverse wildlife including bush elephants, antelopes, birds and general overview of the breathtaking landscape of the Park etc. From Kibale Forest National Park, Uganda’s popular chimpanzee tracking destination to Rwenzori National Park, it is approximately 140kms.

Air transportation

Air transportation is the fastest means to reach Rwenzori Mountains National Park for your hiking or mountaineering adventures. The chartered or scheduled flights begin from Uganda’s Entebbe International Airport or Kajjansi airfield to Kasese airstrip. From Kasese airstrip, a professional driver guide picks up you for transfer to your accommodation where you will have an overnight stay before starting exploring the Rwenzori Mountains National Park or trekking the Rwenzori Mountains of the Moon.

How long does it take you to reach Rwenzori Mountains National Park by flight

Approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes is what you can spend to fly from Entebbe Airport to Kasese airstrip in Western Uganda. This is opposed to about 6 hours which you may spend while on road. Flights from Entebbe Airport to Kasese airstrip are operated by Aero Link, Eagle Air and Fly Uganda.
